So if you haven’t guessed already, this site is pretty much dedicated to stanced cars, whether they are on bags, springs, coilovers, Rocket Bunny, liberty walk or just done on a budget. We applaud anyone that takes the nuts to do something different with their car.

The thing with stance is it is very marmite, you either love it or hate it. Even though those people that previously slate stance cars eventually turn to loving them, it’s just because they are cool!

In this article, we are going to go over why people have a hate for stanced cars, what the stance cars are about, some common builds and will stance ever die out. Then all we ask is that the stance lovers of the world drop us some love and comments in the box at the bottom!

Why The Hate

For some unknown reason, being unique and different in this world seems to get a lot of hate, don’t know why, but it seems the more you try to do things you love, someone wants to tell you you’re wrong. Same goes for modifying your car to the point of being “undriveable”.

Although this true to an extent, stanced cars aren’t always people’s daily driver, they are quite commonly built and built and built just for show standards and having fun with to create something wacky. The hate really comes into play with the Camber.

Most people are OK with lowered and flush to fender but the real deal that people get up about is the Camber. Something to do with big wheels, stretched tires, excessive Camber and lots of scraping. That’s fine, everyone has a taste and building a car to have perfect fitment and that “/==\” look is to some people’s tastes.

The thing I don’t get is if someone likes doing something and building something for him / her, why is it so offensive to the haters, surely it should be upsetting for the guy that’s just scraped his oil pan? But it’s not, those guys drive with more smiles than anyone else on the road.

If you are a hater, just remember these guys like the look, they’re not doing it to please anyone else and they spend a lot of money and time to create something different to separate from the crowd.

Slanty Wheels

Stanced cars are all about one thing, the big slanty wheels. Which is a cool setup, to get the car flush and have the poke and a great Camber takes time, patience and precision, it’s literally an art form. Although there are some cars out there that just don’t look right, the ones that do really look kerching.

The slanty wheels really comes from the JDM scene and drift cars in general, they add the Camber to give more traction on heavy cornering allowing more surface area to touch the roads. This Camber is usually added to the front wheels as those are the ones that need the traction.

Then it started to kick off with other car enthusiasts, trying to recreate the look in a standard car. Now there are combinations of slanty wheels on all sorts of car builds, from the lux stance to retro stance.

What Are Common Builds

Some of you might be reading this section to find out what is overly used in stance, so you don’t go there because you want to do something a bit more unique, that’s cool, so let me list some popular stance cars.

  • Subaru BRZ / Scion FRS / Toyota GT86
  • Nissan 350z
  • Honda Civics
  • Most VW’s
  • E36 3 series
  • Nissan Silvia s14 / s15
  • And Audi’s

Yep, these are probably some common builds, especially in the UK, which is cool, I like the look of all these cars, great, sporty, aggressive looking cars. That’s why they are so popular.

But stance is now sub categorized, giving different levels of stance. Here are some examples.

  • Retro stance (older cars)
  • Lux stance (luxury cars eg Lexus)
  • Muscle stance (mustangs and challengers)
  • Van stance
  • Battle Stance (more of a track stance)

So when going unique, keep these ideas in mind, try to avoid the common cars and do something that hasn’t been done before to bring something new that we can all appreciate.

Is It Just A Fad

Woah, hold up. OK so a lot of cars things are fads, we get it, low riders in the 70’s, big wings, stuff like that, but let’s be honest, none of the previous “fads” never really died out.

We still have low riding cars just in another form. We still have muscle cars (not you 2.3 ecoboost, you disappoint me) and we still have the big wings, they’re just more duckbill.

Even though it’s been decades since cars were getting more and more modified, the ideas are still the same, just in a more modern way, with a slight spin on things. So unlike some previous modifications, Camber is the new thing and is a new modification that hasn’t been done previously.

So why will it die out? Because it looks odd? Do you think low riders were odd to the disco dudes? Just because something is different doesn’t mean it’s not got a following or someone doesn’t care for it, if Picasso gave up painting because it was odd, we wouldn’t have the art we have today.

But that’s my slice of the cake and I like to voice it. But if you have something you want to say, drop a comment below.
